Hollywood, CA – In a poignant ceremony marked by tears and tributes, the late actor Chadwick Boseman was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The event, held on November 22, 2025, drew a crowd of family, friends, and colleagues who gathered to celebrate the legacy of the beloved “Black Panther” star, who passed away on August 28, 2020, after a private battle with colon cancer.
The ceremony commenced with remarks from Jerry Neuman, chair of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce board. Neuman expressed the organization’s honor in permanently enshrining Boseman’s name on the iconic Walk of Fame. Steve Nissen, CEO of the Chamber, officially announced the dedication of star number 2828 in the category of motion pictures to Chadwick Boseman.
Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis, who worked alongside Boseman in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” delivered a heartfelt tribute. Davis spoke of her refusal to accept Boseman’s passing, emphasizing his constant engagement and the reminder his work provided that “we were less alone.”
Ryan Coogler, the director of “Black Panther,” struggled with emotion as he shared his memories of Boseman, describing him as fearless, and highlighting his leadership, teaching, and generosity. Coogler’s emotional outpouring underscored the profound impact Boseman had on those he worked with.
The most moving moment of the ceremony came when Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, was invited to the stage to accept the star. In a deeply personal gesture, Ledward presented a resolution honoring Boseman’s philanthropic work. Following the unveiling of the star, Ledward brought forth a pair of Boseman’s shoes and placed them beside the star, a symbolic act that drew cheers and applause from the assembled crowd.
